Jennnifer is the youngest of three children of Gary Lawrence, a construction company owner, and his wife Karen, a day camp manager -
Childhood
Growing up, Jennifer had no particular attraction to acting; she attended public schools in Louisville, where she played sports and occasionally appeared in small local theater productions. -
Being Discovered
Jennifer's life took a sharp turn on a family spring break trip to New York City when she was 14. The actress remembered watching street dancers in the city's union square. "This guy was watching me, and then he asked if he could take my picture. We didn't think it was creepy at the time, so we said sure. So he took my mom's phone number, and all these modeling agencies start calling, and that is how it started" Jennifer said during an interview. -
Starting her career
(exact date unknown)
Soon after, Jennifer and her mother travled back to New York in order to audition for talent agencies. One agency praised her for her read on a cany commercial saying "it was the best they had seen for a person of her age" Her mother-certainly not a budding stage parent, suggested that the company was lying; however, Jennifer had been bitten by an entertainment bug. -
Graduating
Jennifer agreed to graduate from high school before she made a serious effort to act, and completed a diploma two years ahead schedule with a 3.9 GPA. -
The Bill Engvall Show
Lawrence and her mother then left Louisville for New York, where the teenager auditioned for many roles in commericals and tv shows. In 2007, she debuted in her first regular television role on the TBC comedy THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW, leaving New York for Los Angles. -
Winter's Bone
Lawrence's next role proved to be the one that propelled her to stardom. Cast as the leading character of Ree Dolly in the dark drama Winter's Bone, the actress portrayed a teenager seeking to find her father so that he can appear for a scheduled court date, thus preventing the seizure of the family's home as part of his bail -
The Hunger Games
In early 2011, Lawrence made headlines when she was cast in the starring role of Katniss Everdeen in the big-screen adaptation of the wildly popular young adult Hunger Games trilogy. Because the 20-year-old Lawrence was four years older than and physically unlike the dark-haired, olive-skinned character she was set to portray, some fans and others questioned the casting choice; however, film director Gary Ross and series creator Suzanne Collins stood by the decision to give the role to Lawrence -
More Movies
The actress also performed in lower-key films throughout the year. She co-starred alongside Mel Gibson and actress/director Jodie Foster in The Beaver, a dark comedy about a depressed man (Gibson) who begins communicating with the outside world through the mouth of a beaver puppet. In The Beaver, Lawrence played the teenaged love interest of Gibson's character's son, portrayed by Anton Yelchin. The film received mixed reviews. -
X-Men-First Class
Short months after this high-profile casting announcement, Lawrence lit up the big screen in the comic book blockbuster X-Men: First Class. Cast as the youthful incarnation of Raven Darkholme/Mystique, Lawrence donned full-body blue makeup to act as the shape-shifting mutant, a character played by actress Rebecca Romjin in the series' first three films. -
Living Her Life
Despite her increasingly high profile and many star turns, Lawrence remained adamant that acting and fame were not the defining features of her life. In late 2010, she told Glenn Whipp of Daily Variety about the only magazine clipping of herself she had saved. "Somebody had drawn a moustache on me," she explained. "(My friend) sent it, writing, 'I didn't even do this. Somebody else doesn't like you.' Nobody really cares," she continued. "Acting's my job, but it has absolutely nothing to do with
