A three-judge federal appeals panel states that Loughner could refuse medications because he has not been convicted, but prison doctors could forcibly medicate Loughner to ensure the safety of other prisoners and Loughner himself. -
Forced Medication
Judge calls for a competency hearing to take place on June 27th (later postponed to August 7th). Medications are continued to be forcibly administered to Loughner despite requests by his lawyers to halt the administration. -
Loughner Stands Trial
Loughner is found competent enough to stand trial. Loughner pleads guilty to 19 charges which spares him the death penalty. Loughner's psychologist states that the medications have changed Loughner into a better person. The psychologist says that Loughner is competent enough to stand trial and agree to a plea. -
Sentencing
Loughner appears in court and is sentenced to serve seven consecutive life terms plus 140 years in prison without parole.
