    Russo-Japanese War
    Russia began showing interest in Korea and Manchuria. After Japan fails to reach an agreement with Russia, Japan declares war against Russia in Febuary 1904. After multiple bloody battle against the Russians, the Japanese come out victorious. The War ended in September 1905.

    During the war Japan sent China a list of demands. When China declined, Japan threatened invasion. China gave in and provided Japan with many resources.

    Japan Post WW1
    Japans alliance with Britain allowed Japan to acquire most of Germany's Asian and Pacific colonies. It also brought about a slowing of Japanese production and a decrease in status of their military.

    The new Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs (had strong ties with ultranationalist societies) urged interventionist policies in Manchuria and other parts of China

    The Collapse of the Stock Market devastated the economy and was a key factor in beginning the Great Depression. The Great Depression, weak government, and the breakdown of international trade led to a brutal invasion of Manchuria in 1931 and of China in 1937.

    Shortly after the Chinese invasion in 1937, Japan assumed responsibility for peace in Asia. Parts of northern China were seen as an important part of Japanese national existence.

    The Co-Prosperity Sphere was announced and was used to justify imperialist expansion throughout Asia. Its intent was to create a new international order that would align Asian countries with Japan, free of western colonialism and domination.
