    A formal treaty opened two ports of Japan for commerce. This was a change event because it allowed new trade to become apparent.

    The literacy rate was at 40% for men and 15% for women. This was a continuity event because it continued to reach a higher percent. This was just a specific spot of it.
  • New Government Agency

    The Ministry of Industry was created to regulate the economy. This marked the first step to creating a new industrialized economy which is a change.
  • Mitsubishi

    Mitsubishi was a company that built some of Japan's early railroads. This is a change event because it helped to improve the economy.
  • Shuibuzawa Eiichi

    He turned to banking in 1873. He helped to establish the textile industry. This was a change because it wasn't established that well.
  • Samurai

    A samurai uprising happened. This marked the end of the Samurai with the military becoming Japan's main source of defense.
  • Sino-Japanese War

    Japan wins the Sino-Japanese War for influence over Korea. This was a change event because this marks the availablity for more materials.
  • Korea

    Japan annexed Korea to be able to get raw materials. This was a continuity event because production was still ongoing, just in need of supplies.
