Birth of Minamoto
Yorimoto was the third son of the Japanese warrior Minamoto Yoshitomo, he was born in the Owari Province. As a descendant of the Emperor Seiwa, he was also of royal lineage. -
1159
Early Life
In 1159, Yorimoto's father Minamoto Yoshitomo was fighting in a battle against the Taira clan. However, the Taira won and took Yorimoto was captured and banished to the Izu province where for lived for the next 20 years under the supervision of the Taira. Yamamoto escaped the province by seducing his jailers' Daughter -

Gaining support
Yorimoto starts the Gempei war in rebellion to Mochihito-ō. Yorimoto also gains the support of many feudal spoorters from the eastern provinces. -

Genpei War
The Genpei war started in 1180 and finished in 1185. It was a battle between the Minamoto and and Taira clans, as the Minamoto clan was fed up with the Taira being the controlling clan for 20 years. Because of this war, the Kamakura Shogunate was established. -
1183
A difficult choice
In 1183 Minamoto Yoshinaka, Yoritomo's cousin, was becoming very powerful as he invaded Kyōto, the seat of court. As his cousin posed as a threat to the Minamoto clan, Yoritomo decided to find him and kill him so that his power would stop. Yoritomo killed his cousin -

The Kamakura Shogunate
Yorimoto sends Shugo to police and administer the Minimoto vessels. The Shugo were also for punishing murder and rebellion from the locals. Yorimoto also introduced the jitō who had to supervise individual states. Both of these classes became feudal lords. -

Death of Yorimoto
Yorimoto died on the 9th of February 1199 in Kamakura, Japan -

The Mongolians
In 1274 the Mongolians headed towards Japan, they were one of the strongest armies in the world at the time. They docked a few of their ships on the coast, but as they weere about to attack a typhoon struck and destoryed most of the other ships and the remaining Mongolians fled or were killed by the Japanese -

The Mongols strike again
In 1281 the Mongols decided they wanted to try and take over Japan again. They land on the island of Kyushu but to their surprise another typhoon strikes and destroys most of their ships and the mission a fail. The Mongols don't come back to Japan as they believe that Japan has divine intervention -

End of the Kamakura Shogunate
In 1333 emperor Go-Daigo overthrows the Karmakura Shogunate and hold power for a short time. But in 1336 Ashikaga Takauji overtakes the emperor and starts the Muromachi period.
