Hitler ignores the restriction on invading the Rhineland put in place by the Treaty Of Versailles, and leads his troops into the Rhineland. Other countries noticed German aggression and were unwilling to risk war because of their economic problems. France and Britain aggreed to follow a policy of 'appeasement,' in which they allow the aggresor, Germany, to continuously invade more geographical regions in attempt to prevent becoming involved in war. -

This event is known as the 'straw that broke the camel's back,' meaning that Germany had now gone too far and the other countries could not abide by their policy of appeasement for any longer. France and Britain were afraid that the Nazi Regime could take over the world, so they became involved to stop them.
