Trading Begins
The first cargo ship was full of chinese goods of silk and porcelain. The Japanese have been wanting these goods but were forbidden as a punishment from a pirate raid. -

Under Emperor Meiji, Japan becomes wealthy and powerful. The country wins wars against China and Russia. -
Japanese Invasion of Korea
Japan takes over the Korean peninsula and rules it for 35 years, until 1945 -
Joined League of Nations
Japan joined the League of nations on January 10th of 1920 and left March 27th of 1933. This was a group of countries to bring peace and end war. The league of nations ended on April 18, 1946 because the United Nations took it over. -
Great Kanto Earthquake
The Great Kanto Earthquake, one of the worst quakes in world history, destroys Tokyo and Yokohama. More than 140,000 people are killed. -
Emperor
Hirohito becomes emperor of Japan in 1926. -
Japanese Invasion of China
Japan invaded China but eventually surrendered September 2nd 1945 to allied forces. -
WWII (1941-1945)
The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and entered into war with the United States until September of 1945. The reason for this was to use the natural resources in Malaya and Dutch East Indies. Japan lost. -
US-Japan Security Treaty
Japan entered into the US-Japan Security Treaty to keep peace between the two countries. It will remain enforced until one party gives notice to cancel it. -
Major births (2001-2006)
Crown Princess Masako gives birth to a baby girl, Princess Aiko. Five years later, Princess Kiko gives birth to a baby boy. The baby, Hisahito, is third in line to the throne
