    The Great Depression was a time in the United States when millions of citizens were out of work. The stock market crashed on October 29, 1929 and lasted until until 1954. By 1933, 13 - 15 million people were out of work. Then in 1954 the stock market went back to how it was before the depression.
  • Jane Goodall Is Born

    Jane Goodall Is Born
    On April 3, 1934, Jane Goodall was born in London, England. She was the first born child and showed a love and passion for animals at an early age. As a child she had a chimp stuffed animal that she always had with her.
  • World War 2

    World War 2 was in Europe in which the Nazis were lead by Adolf Hitler. The war lasted for 6 years. Many countries were involved, including the United States , Germany and Japan.
  • Dr.Leakey

    Dr.Leakey
    Dr. Leakey was the first to give Jane a job in Africa digging up fossils. He was the one to first ask Jane if she would work with chimpanzees. Dr. Leakey also helped fund the chimp project.

    Jane's Mother accompanied her on her first journey to study chimpanzees. The government made Jane have a partner while studying . Without her mother volunteering to go with her, She would never have studied chimps.

    The chimps were important because they taught Jane everything she knows. They also trusted her to be with them and she loves their company and finds them fascinating. They are also her best friends.

    Jane Goodall and her mother caught malaria while studying chimps in Gombe, Africa. There was also no vaccine in the area. Jane healed faster than her mother but was still unable to study chimps for weeks.
  • Researchers Kidnapped

    While studying in Africa she was acompanied by some research students.Two of the students were kidnapped but returned safely after a few weeks. After the kidnapping, no non-Africans could go into the area so Jane was unable to do her work.
  • Finding Chimps

    Finding chimps was extremely hard, it took many months. After 2 months searching for chimps the dry season ended. When the dry season ended the wet season began and the grass grew to 6 feet tall. This made finding the chimps really hard.
  • Chimp Discoveries

    While studying and observing chimps, she was the first to find out that chimps use tools, when she saw a chimp use a stick to pull ants out of the ground. She was also the first to discover that champanzees ate meat, she saw a group of chimps feasting on a dead pig. Jane also discovered they were cannibles.

    In 1963 Jane Goodall was featured in National Geographic for her amazing chimp discoveries. The issue was sold out in weeks. The pictures were done by Hugo Van Lawick her long time partner.
  • Teaching and Protecting

    Teaching and Protecting
    Jane Goodall also teaches people about how to protect and conserve wildlife. She travels around the world giving lectures at different zoos and other places that people come to listen to her talk about about protection of the wilderness and the chimps. Jane also participates in different projects to make sure chimps have a safe place to live.

    On September 11, 2001, a plane crashed into the twin towers. The plane was being flown by terrorists but the people inside were regular passengers. When the plane crashed many people died, including the people in the towers and on the plane

    Jane is currently 78 years old and lives in London, England. She still participates in conservation projects and gives lectures about wildlife to many people. Jane is single since her husband passed away, and she has one son.
