Jane meets Helen Burns and they become friends throughout their time in Lowood. We picked this event because it is Jane's very first friend and that means a lot ot her. This is significant because Jane finally receives the love and affection she always wanted but never received. -
Helen Dies
Lowood contracts typhus but Helen dies of consumption. We picked this event because Jane's first and only friend has died. This is significant because it is the first huge loss Jane has had since her parents' death. -
Jane Becomes a Teacher
Jane follows in Miss Temple's footsteps and becomes a teacher at Lowood for two years. We chose this event because it shows Jane's character developing into a successful young woman. This is significant because it shows how far that she has come since the beginning of the novel. -
Jane enters Thornfield
Jane decides she wants to better her life and finds a job at Thornfield. We picked this event because this is where the plot really starts to develop. This is significant because Jane is basically starting a completely new life by herself. -
Jane meets Mr. Rochester
Jane shows her caring side when she helps Mr. Rochester after his accident however she did nhot know it was Mr. Rochester at the time. We picked this event because it is when she meets one of the main charcters in the story because of this is helps move the plot along. This event significant because she starts to develop feeeling for this man and doesn't really know it at first. -
Rochester's Room Fire
This event is very significant because Jane basically saves Mr. Rochester's life and it foreshadows the secrets in Thornfield.We picked this because creates a lot of interest in the story and the life of Riochester, The plot is moved forward because it creates more feeluings between Jane and Rochester. -
Rochester's Party
The plot is moved forward when Jane meets Blanche Ingram, who she thinks Rochester is in love with. This causes Jane to feel jealousy and disappointment which is very significant because it gives more of a look at Jane's feelings for Rochester. We picked this event because it shows how different Jane and Rochester really are. -
Rochester and Jane's Wedding
This is a significant event because Jane finally gets to marry the one she truly loves and cares about. We picked this event because it is a huge turning point in the plot. This event helps move the plot along as well. It shows Jane finally opening herself up to Mr. Rochester and fighting her fears of being close to someone. -
Jane runs away
This event is significant because Jane faces another challenge that she has to overcome with a decision that will change her life. This helps move the plot forward because Jane is starting a whole new life again. This event also shows a whole new side of Jane. -

This event is significant because the Rivers save Jane from death. Which, in return, helps move the plot along because it introduces new side characters that end up being very important to Jane. Unlike everyone else, St. John allows Jane to come into the house to rest and eat. While she is recuperating Jane becomes friends with Diana and Mary. -

This event is significant to the plot because it shows Jane going back to doing what she likes even though she is still unhappy. This helps move the plot forward because it gives a new enviornment for Jane to live in. -
St.John Proposes
This event is significant because Jane is faced with another difficult challenge. St. John proposes to her because he thinks that she will make a good missionary's wife, but she isn't so sure. She doesn't want to marry him because she does not love him. She still loves Mr. Rochester. This event moves the plot forward because it's another obstacle for Jane to overcome. -
New Life
In the past ten years Jane has reunited with Mr.Rochester and they have gotten married then had a son together. Mr. Rochester also gets part of his sight back. This event is significant because it is the closing event of the story. It also ends the plot at a good place.
