James Vernon Taylor was born
James Taylor is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. A five-time Grammy award winner, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. James was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 12, 1948. He was the second of 5 children, the others being Alex (1947-1993), Kate (born 1949), Livingston (born 1950), and Hugh (born 1952). -
Kate Taylor was born
On August 15th 1949, James' sister Kate was born. Kate was always a big part of James' life. He would always talk to her when things got rough and she eventually talked him into going to the mental hospital. She also suffered problems of her own and checked herself into the hospital at a later date. -

Caroline "Kim" Smedvig, the director of public relations and marketing for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is James' third marriage. They began dating in 1995, when they met as he appeared with John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra.
