Cubans considered Jamaica "the land of blessed gold". Columbus found out there was no gold in Jamaica. -

Spain Claimed Jamaican Land & Indigenous Arawak people die off from disease
The Arawaks were not fond of the Spainards. When the Spainards came to claim the Jamaican land, they tortured and killed the Arawak people to get their land. The European diseases aided in killing the Arawaks as well. -
British captured Jamaica from Spain
Military leaders from England, gained control of Jamaica. The Spaniards surrendered after an attack on Jamaica. The Spainards then fled to Cuba. -
Treaty of Madrid: Jamaica cedes from Britian
Spain officially gave up Jamaican land to England. England was now in control of Jamaica. -
Slavery abolished
Jamaican emancipation and apprenticeship came into effect in 1834 and full freedom was granted in 1838. -
New Constitution
The Jamaican Constitution is said to be "the most fundamental legal document in the country." To this day this Constituion remains the platform of the country's decisions. -
Start of WW2
Since Jamaica is a British colony, they were immediately involved in WW2, after Britian declared War on Germany. -
End of WW2
Jamaican involvement in WW2 ended. While the Allies ultimately winning. -
Jamaica becomes a member of the Federation of West Indies
Federation of West Indies consists of 10 British Territories. The prime members were Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and Barbados. -
Jamaica withdrawls from the Federation of the West Indies
The withdrawl on Jamaica resulted in the dissolving of the Federation. Jamaica was the most popular and prosperous member. -
Jamaica gains indepedence from British Commonwealth
Jamaicans celebrate their independence every year. It is a day to commemerate the country's success. Jamaicans are very proud of their country.
