    Spain stopped controlling jamica and it became a British possesion.

    Capitial City destroyed by earthquake
    The earthquake destroyed all of Port Royal and left most of the city under sea level.

    Slave trade

    The Slave trade was started by the British leaders and was finally emancipated in 1833 after the indians were free they set up homelands.
  • Banana Plantaions

    Banana Plantaions
    Instead of having sugar plantations in Jamaica they started creating Banana Plantaions. They did this because after the wars, such as the Morant Bay Rebellion which freed all slaves, the prices of sugar dropped dramatically and the Jamaican government needed more cash flow not less. So they changed their ways to help Jamaica's economy.
  • New Constitution is made

    New Constitution is made
    Many Jamaicans left Jamica due to poverty and the economy. In 1884 they tried restarting their country with this new Constitution. This Constitution really helped bring Jamaica back to the country they are today.
  • People's National Party (PNP) Formed

    People's National Party (PNP) Formed
    This social-democratic party was formed by Norman Manley. Even today this party still holds a majority in the House of Representatives with 42 of the 63 seats.

    World War II

    Jamaicans voluteered themselves for military services. They mostly worked with British units, the occaisonal person would get sent to train in the United States. A problem that the jamaicans faced were that both countries were segregated at the time.

    In 1958 Jamaica became a member of the group, The Federation of the West Indies. This group was formed by many Carribean Islands that were colonies of the Unied Kingdom.
  • Bush Fire

    Bush Fire
    The was a wild life fire that affected over 150 farmers whos crops were completly wiped out. It was one of the worst fires Jamaicas had in quite some time.
