Jamaica was found on February 14th, 1492. Jamaica was found by Christopher Columbus. -

Spanish
The Spanish took control of Jamaica. They soon deemed it unhealthy. -
Land seized
The English took control of Jamaica. The Taino still were on the island during the time. -
Refuge
Jamaica had became a refuge for Jews. It was also an attraction for those expelled from Spain and Portugal. -
Worker imports
Jamaica was still under British rule. The British began to import Chinese workers to help with sugar cane production. -
Rebel
The people of the island were rebellious to Britain. This caused Britain to end slavery on the island. -
Chief Justice
Sir Horace Hector Hearne became chief justice. He also headed the Supreme court. -
Province
Jamaica became recognized as a province. It was a member of The Federation of the West Indies. -
Independence
Jamaica received full independence. British no longer had control of the island. -
Unwanted independence
Jamaica still widely celebrates independence. Some still want to be part of Britain. A poll showed that 60% of the population would like to join Britain.
