WWII was when a bunch of countries went to war with each other. There was pressure from the treaty of Versailles, and some nations started to revolt. It resulted in lots of deaths and many countries and borders split. -

Blitzkrieg was a tactic used by the Germans that consisted of rapid invasion and surprise attacks. It was also called lightning war and was used to invade Poland. It resulted in Poland being split and conquered. -
Germany's Invasion of Poland

Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor was when Japan attacked Pear Harbor, a military harbor owned by the US. It occurred on 12/7/1941 and killed almost 3,000 people. The result of this is the US declaring war on Japan. Source: Notes -
D-Day
D-Day was when Churchill, FDR, and Eisenhower planned a land invasion of France from the west while Stalin attacked Germany from the east. It happened on 6/6/1944 and was also known as operation Overlord. The result was Germany lost territory in France and was one of the last battles for Germany. Source: Notes -

Battle of the Bulge
Battle of the Bulge was Hitler's last attempt to defeating the allies. He tried to hold them off but the Germans lost 100,000 troops, the us losing 80,000. They lost because they ran out of fuel. This resulted in the allies winning the war in Europe and now moving on to Japan. -

Battle of Iwo Jima
A battle in which the US took over an air base. They did this so they could be in bombing range of the Japan mainland. In result this let them drop the 2 atomic bombs and therefore win the war. -

VE Day
VE day was when the US won in Europe. This happened when Germany surrendered when Hitler took a cyanide pill and shot himself. This resulted in the US winning the war in Europe and now moving to fight in Japan. -

Dropping of the atomic bombs
President Truman decided to drop the bomb in order to save American lives from a land invasion. On August 6 1945 (Hiroshima) and August 9 1945 (Nagasaki) the bombs were dropped. The effects of this event were Japan surrendering soon after, making VJ day August 15 1945. Source: Notes -
