John and Sara get a Dog
On a January 1991 night, young couple John and Jenny Grogan decide to answer a news ad and get a puppy. They name him Marley after Bob Marley the singer. -
Miscarriage of the First Child
Jenny and John are ecstatic for the birth of their first child, but they under go a miscarriage. John and Sara are deeply saddened. -
Marley in Obedience School
Marley is taken to obedience school by John to hopefully learn some poiteness. Marley is thrown out of class after the first class. -
Jenny is bedridden
After a challenging birth, Jenny has to rest. Jenny is demoralized and John is overworked. -
Jenny has her First Child
After returning from a trip to Ireland Jenny has her first baby, a boy, named Patrick. -
Jenny and John have baby # 2
Their second baby is another boy named Conor. Conor is born healthy despite the scare. -
Jenny bedridden again
After a hard pregnancy, Jenny must stay bedridden to keep her health in tact. She is depressed because she can't do anything with her new boys. -
Neighborhood Stabbing
John runs outside with Marley to check out a scream in the middle of the night. They find a 17 year old girl who had been stabbed. Marley stood guard as John called the police. The girl is okay. -
Baby # 3 is born
Baby # 3 is born with no problems. It's a girl named Colleen. -
The Grogans move
The Grogans move from Miami to Boca Raton, bringing Marley and the 3 kids with them. -
The Grogans move again
To escape the Florida ways, the Grogans move to a small town in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile Marley is aging quickly, as are the kids. -
Marley's Health Decline
Marley's health declines rapidly with loss of energy, loss of hearing, failing hips and bladder issues. Marley suffers a severe twist in his stomach which requires operation or for the dog to be put down. The Grogans have a tough choice to make. -
Marley is put to sleep
Marley is put down after the Grogans decide to not prolong his suffering. John says his last goodbyes and then burries him in the front yard under two cherry trees.
