from 1587-1629, persia was in war with what is now present day turkey. the war lasted for 42 years. -

after the ottoman wars, the persians had much of there land taken away. but one persian ruler stepped up, and regained all of there land back, and also drove away all the invaders from their land. -

the shah of Iran was assasinated, thus another empire coming to an end. -

the great famine killed 1.5 million people, or 20-25% of its population. -

during much of the world wars, iran was mostly occupied by britain. -
qajar dynasty
the corrupt qajar dynasty was overthrowed. -
iranian revolution
the iranian revolution, changed iran forever. iran no longer had a king or queen (monarchy). instead it changed to presidency. protesting, and street fightings occured many days over this revolution. the iranian flag also changed from a lion holding a sword, to the islamic symbol. irans name was also changed from "iran", to the islamic republic of iran. -
iranian presedential election.
when the iranian presedential election occured in 2009, many people did not want, the current president mahmoud admadinejad to remain in office. when the election was over, it showed that he won. many people believed that the election was "rigged" thus demanding a re-count. when one was not given, riots, and protest began. many people lost their lives over these protests. aafter a few months when a re-count was given, it showed that admadinejad was still up 55%-45%.
