Revolver: Samuel Colt
The revolver was a new and useful weapon that could hold up to six bullets. It was not successful at first but then it went into mass production and into the hands of policemen everywhere in America.

Elevator (with brakes): Elisha Graves Otis
This was the first elevator with brakes, which allowed it to stop at levels of multiple-level buildings. Skyscrapers became a reality with this invention.

Manned Glider: Sir George Cayley
He is said to be the "father of aerodynamics".He developed concepts like steering rudders and rear elevators. He created the first ever glider that was able to carry a person. He also is the author of "On Ariel Navigation".

A French father and son team who claim to have created the first bicycle. There is debate over whether this is true or not. They created a bicycle with pedals and rotary cranks, this invention became part of the industrial revolution because people used it as an everyday vehicle.

Dynamite: Alfred Nobel
Alfred Nobel was a lonely millionaire.He invented dynamite, which provided ways to blast the inside of mountains in order to create tunnels and other important things, not just warfare.

Tungsten Steel: Robert Mushet
Robert Mushet developed one of the types of tungsten steel. Tungsten steel was major player in the industrial revolution because it alllowed to make many tall buildings and structures and machines.

Barbed Wire: Joseph Glidden
Joseph Glidden went to a county fair in Illinois and saw a design Henry Rose had made where he had a wood rail with nails coming out so that if the cattle tried to escape it would be pricked by the nail. That inspired him to invent barbed wire. Barbed wire allowed farmers to keep their cattle, and they wouldn't run off. This was a breakthrough.

Telephone: Alexander Graham Bell
Bell created a way for people to communicate by electricity. The first words spoken on a telephone were : "mr.watson, come here. I want to see you" by Bell to his assistant Watson in the next room.
Bell was born on march 3 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell grew up in a home where he learned about the nature of sound and besides inventing the telephone also taught the deaf.

Internal Combustion Engine: Nikoulaus August Otto
Otto began working with a traveling salesman and there learned about the first combustion engine, which didn't work properly. He became interested in this topic and worked and worked until he later developed the two-stroke engine which was fueled by gas. It was brought to light when it received a gold medal at the Paris World Fair in 1867.

Light Bulb and Direct Current: Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison created an electric lighting system that was safe, affordable, and practical. He also develooed the system of direct current which was used to power the light bulb. He formed a company named Edison General Electric which was later changed to today's General Electric.
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was a very poor student, and he was taken out of school and taught at home because of it.

The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright created the first flying machine that could carry a person. They had the first successful flight at Kitty Hawk, NC.
