Sewing Machine
Invented by Elias Howe, the sewing machine is one of the few machines that helped set America’s backbone as a hard working country. The sewing machine allowed for textiles to be made into articles of clothing, especially cotton shirts and denim jeans. -
Oil Drill
Edwin L. Drake was an inventor that created the oil drill. His first drill carved down into the soil to carry 400 gallons up to the surface every 24 hours. This invention is necessary for us to go on with our regular gas because this device extracts oil, which is a key element of the modern car. Almost every car needs an oil change and without Drake we wouldn’t have advanced so far with cars. -
Jeans
Do you wear jeans? Of course you do! We all have to thank Levi Stratus for making a pair of jeans that would be timeless. Levi began making jeans during the gold rush when many men needed good jeans that would stay up and be able to hold a day’s worth of hard work. Today jeans are used by everyone from the young to the old and are part of our culture’s fashion scene. Levi’s invention gave jeans a new call of duty. -
Telephone
In American culture nothing is more valuable and precious to us than our telephones. Invented by Alexander Graham Bell, the first telephone had a very short range. A break though that would later basically set the tone for our future communication. The telephone is important to our culture in the way it connects us to people faster and lets us talk to people that are thousand miles away. -
Coca Cola
This timeless American fountain drink was invented by Dr. John Pemberton. This refreshing drink became instantly iconic as it began invading the homes of thousands of thirsty Americans. This soda is important to our culture due to the fact that it began a craze over foods and drinks. It capitalized on drinking something so delicious and cheap.
