Paper
Ancient pieces of paper have been foudn in the Xuanquanzhi ruins of Dunhuang in China's northwest Gansu province during the reign of Emperor Wu. Printing Press
Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press around 1440, allowing the production of books to increase rapidly. By 1500, 20 million volumes had been printed in Western Europe.
