They used a form of a brick or stone oven. It was not very well structured. They warmed the oven with a fire. They mainly used their ovens to bake breads. -
Colonial America
They had bee hive shaped brick ovens. They couldn't control the tempatrure of the oven which was a drawback. So they tried to test the heat by putting their hands in the oven and feeling how warm it is. If they felt like the tempature was too warm they would open the wood door to let it cool down a little bit. -
The 1795
They started to use cast iron stoves. Iron stoves had been around for awhile but the version invented by Count Rumford at the end of the 18th century became popular again. It had a single fire source. The temperature could be regulated individually in serveral spots at the same time. But there was a drawback it was too large for modest home kitchens. -
1834
The first recorded use of gas for cooking was by a Morarian named Zachaus WInzler in 1802. It took three decades for the first comercially produced gas stove made by James Sharp hit the market. The stoves became very popular by the end of that century. The gas stoves were easier to regualte and regquired less upkeeping than wood or coal stoves. -
1892
In this time they invented the eletric stove. One of the early models was invented/manufactured by Thomas Ahearn. Thomas was an electric company owner.
