  • Steam engine invented

    The steam engine was an important invention as it was more efficeint compared to the way they used to run trains with coal.
  • Spinning Jenny was invented

    This invention allowed one worker to spin eight spindles. as people had to make clothes by hand this was a useful invention and without we would not have the sewing machine.
  • 10 million tons of coal mined

    This event occurred just after coal mining was invented. This could be both a good or bad event. Good because it was a huge impact to the economy in Great Britain and bad because of the environmental impacts
  • Candle stick telephone invented

    This was the first model of the telephone, after Bell's experimental telephone. This was the first in a long line of models that have lead to mobile phones.
  • Rotary dial telephone invented

    The rotary telephone was the first of many telephones to use a dialing system. This was important as it made the telephone more efficient.
  • Minimum work age is 12 years old

    This Factory Act raised the minimum work age to 12 years old. This was important as it enabled kids to have a life and not have to work when they should be focusing on school work.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to Austria-Hungary's throne, and his wife, Sophie, are assassinated by Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip while the couple were visiting Sarajevo.
