The Northwest Ordinance of 1787
Started a process of creating 5 new states between the Ohio and Mississipii rivers. It acknowledged that native americans had claim to the land and should be treated better to avoid conflict. It outlawed slavery in all 5 new states. (video 8) -

The Tariff of 1828
