Start collecting information about IUP policies and disaster response manuals at other repositories. -
Begin meeting with people

Meet with Dean Gonzalez
The intern will meet with Luis Gonzalez, the Dean of the IUP Libraries, to review internship plan, goals, and objectives. He can contacted at 724-357-2330. Dean Gonzalez will serve as the supervisor for the project. -
Begin collecting information about the IUP Libraries
The intern will collect information about the IUP Libraries including contact information for key personnel, and the types of library resources and equipment in each department. -
Intern meets with the Office of Facilities Management
Meet with Mark Geletka who is the Vice President in charge of Facilities Management. Talk with him about the internship plan and how it can be implemented at the IUP Libraries and possibly be incorporated into the university. Mark Geletka can be reached at 724-357-5924. -
Meet with Public Safety and University Police
The intern will meet with the Office of Public Safety and the University Police to discuss the internship project and how it can be integrated into the Emergency Procedures in place on campus. Contact person, Sam Clutter, can be reached at 724-357-2141. -
Design the disaster response manual for the IUP Libraries
The intern will begin designing the layout for the disaster response plan including the manual. -
Start building disaster response kits
The intern will prepare the disaster response kits for each of the IUP Libraries' buildings. These kits include copies of the disaster response manual, and supplies and equipment needed for small library disasters. -
Attend part 1 of two-day disaster planning workshop
The intern will attend a two-day workshop sponsored by the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts. The workshop is focused on the protection of collections, resources, and equipment. The speaker is Jessica Silverman, jsilverman@ccaha.org. -
Final draft of the disaster response manual completed
The intern will complete the disaster response manual for the IUP Libraries. -
Attend part 2 of the two-day workshop in Johnstown
The intern will attend the second part of the two-day workshop sponsored by CCAHA. -
Presentation about the IUP Libraries' Disaster Response Plan
The intern will give an interactive presentation about the disaster response plan for the IUP Libraries. Attendees will include library and university employees. Contact person, Patricia Cornman, 724-357-2330. -
Distribute disaster response kits to the IUP Libraries
The intern will distribute the disaster response kits to the different library departments and buildings. -
Completion of the internship project
The intern will submit the final internship summary to Dean Gonzalez and Dr. Kaufman. As the Special Collections Librarian and University Archivist, the intern will serve as the contact person for potential library disasters and continue to update and maintain the disaster response plan for the IUP Libraries.
