In 1877, the first Japanese person, Manzo Nagano, landed and settled in Canada. The Japanese people who came after him were mostly men, with majority of the women coming to settle after 1908. -
The Asiatic EXclusion League was formed on August 12th, 1907. -
White people rioted against Asians being allowed to live in Canada/the coast line. Many Japanese owned buisnesses were severaly damaged and vandilizied in this riot. -
The Chinese Immigration Act was put into place in 1923 and is another example of anti-Asian acts from the government. This act prevented people of Chinese origin from entering and definitely from remaining in Canada. -

In 1942, all people of Japanese origin had been moved into these camps away from the coast of B.C. This meant families were seperated and many people had to stay in former livestock buildings. -
In 1945, many people with Japanese origin/ancestory were exiled to Japan. Most of these Japanesse Canadians had never been to Japan as they were born and raised In Canada -
After the years of racism the Japanese Canadians had faced, the government made a formal apology for what they did. They gave cash to survivors and money to the Jpanese commuity as well as creating the Canadian Race Relations Foundations.
