My First Computer
I acquired my own computer in 1995. My first computer. It was a large, boxy desktop but I was overwhelmingly proud of it! My biggest accomplishment was that I learned to design cards. I made thank you cards, birthday cards, etc. Image from JAKPrints. -
Internet Access
I was able to access the world wide web by using AOL dial-up connection. The dial tone, the ring, and the wait...oh the wait. Even though I would not be able to manage with this today at that time it was exciting to access all the information even though it was a slow process. Image from youtube/AOL. -
Email and funerals?
As a managing partner for two funeral firms it became increasingly effective to be able to email partners all around the globe. The communication and amount of networking was a major player in assisting funeral directors in dealing with new trends, unusual deaths, or other unencountered things where immediate assistance was needed. Obituaries Digitized
This was a turning point in the funeral industry. As long as I worked in the funeral industry funeral directors had to fax a copy of the obituary to the paper, hand deliver any photo to be used in the paper, and wait (a long time) for the newspaper to fax back a copy of the obituary which you would proof, initial, and fax back before it could be placed into the paper. Now, just email it with the photo!! Image from NelsonMortuary.com. -

Facebook
I typed my first activity onto my Facebook page. I had no idea what to expect and then the social media scene just exploded. I was suddenly in contact with people I had not seen or heard from in years. Image from Twitter. -
Back To School
I entered graduate college to begin to work on my Masters of Arts in Teaching and was amazed at the access to research articles. I did not have to go to a library. There was no card catalogue, not microfilm, and no missing documents. It was all accessed from home through the keyboard. Image from District Dispatch. -
iPhone 7
I have come a long way from the original iPhone but it is a necessity in my world today. I use my phone to communicate in every way - it has replaced my home phone, my fax machine, my watch, and I use it for nearly every appointment, party, etc. It is part of my daily routine. Image from Best Buy.
