  • Greek - Bulgaria Crisis

    Some Greek soldiers were killed in a small fight on the border between Greece and Bulgaria.The Greeks were angry. They invaded Bulgaria. The Bulgarian government told its army not to fight back. The Greeks did as the League said. They left Bulgaria.

    The Treaty of Versailles consisted of 440 Articles setting out the terms for Germany's punishment. The treaty was greeted with shock and disbelief in Germany.

    Poland invaded Lithuania, the league stopped th invation. Both sides claimed it, however the land was Lithunia's, but the league needed Poland as a ally, so they split the land

    German people who lived in Upper Silesia wanted a pebicite so it was now German land, not polish.
    There was a pebicite and the Germans did win the vote, however the land was split which angered the Germans.

    The Kellogg-Briand Pact was an agreement to outlaw war signed on August 27, 1928. Sometimes called the Pact of Paris for the city in which it was signed, the pact was one of many international efforts to prevent another World War, but it had little effect in stopping the rising militarism of the 1930s or preventing World War II.

    An Italian general was killed while he was doing some work for the League in Greece. The Italian leader Mussolini was angry with the Greeks. He invaded the Greek island of Corfu. The Greeks asked the League to help.

    Hitler wanted all German-speaking nations in Europe to be a part of Germany. To this end, he had designs on re-uniting Germany with his native homeland, Austria. Under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, however, Germany and Austria were forbidden to be unified.
    In an attempt to realise his goals, Hitler was determined to destabilise Austria and undermine its independence. His ultimate goal was anschluss (union) with Austria.

    Russia, Britain and France met to form an alliance to defend Poland - but by August 1939, Russia had swapped sides and made a pact with Germany! Through the Nazi-Soviet Pact, Stalin and Hitler agreed not to go to war with each other and to split Poland between them.
