Russia Rejected from League of Nations
Russia was also not allowed to join becuase of the communist government that generated fear in western Europe. In 1918, the Russian royal family The Romanovs was murdered and such country could not be allowed to take its place in the League. -
Germany Rejected from League of Nations
Germany was not allowed to join the League in 1919, as Germany started the war. Their punishment was that they were not considered to be a member of the international community and was not invited to join. This was a great disaster to Germany, but it also meant that the League could not use the strength Germany had to support its campaign. -
League of Nations was Adopted
The Headquarter is in Geneva and decided that any country that resorted war will be in economic sanctions. -

Italy to be Sanctioned
Mussolini sent soldiers to Ethiopia. The League of Nations condemned Italy and in November imposed sanctions. This included to ban countries from selling arms, rubber and metals to Italy. Political leaders in France and Britain opposed sanctions because it might persuade Mussolini to form an alliance with Adolf Hitler. -
Hitlers Request to Chamberlain
Neville Chamberlain, the British prime minister, met Adolf Hitler at his home in Berchtesgaden. Hitler threatened to invade Czechoslovakia unless Britain supported Germany's plans to takeover the Sudetenland. But then, Chamberlain informed Hitler that his proposals were unacceptable. -
Germany gets Sudetenland
Mussolini suggested to Adolf Hitler to have a conference of Germany, Britain, France and Italy, excluding Czechoslovakia and Soviet Union.
The meeting took place in Munich and agreed that Germany could have Sudetenland. -
Russian Invasion
Joseph Stalin ordered the Red Army to invade Germany on 30th November 1939. This time, the League of Nations decided to expel the Soviet Union. In 1946, the League of Nations was handed over to the United Nations. -
