United States started to build up trrops in Saudi Arabia to prevent possible attack of the country. Iraq has built up 300,000 troops in Kuwait and Hussein declares a Jihad (Holy War) -

Since Hussein didn't withdraw the United Nations said to use all nessassary means of force agains Iraq. -

Operation Desert Storm
United States lead an air strike on Iraq's air defence. This caused Iraq air forces to either be destroyed or leave combat. The U.S. wanted to win the war in the air so there was less combat ont the ground. -
Operation Desert Storm Ends
After 42 days of fighting, on this day there is a cease fire and Hussein had to recognize Kuwait as a country and rid of all nuclear weapons -
Operation Provide Relief
The U.S. deployed 10 aircraft and 400 men to deliver 48,000 tons of food and medical supplies. This mission was considered a failure because the UN couldn't directly deliver aid to the starving population. -

Operation Restore Hope
Warlords are running the country and warfare in normal. The is barely a food supply and humanitarians went in to make camps so people didn't starve; even then food sometimes didn't make it to their target. -
Mogadishu
U.S. men went into the most dangerous part of the country to try and find Aidid and his fellow warlords. We got the men but the U.S. had many casualties and lost two helicopters. A movie was made to reanact the battle, and also a documentary was made of two men going back to the site of the battle
