The president is George H.W. Bush. Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait in early 1990. Saudi Arabia and Egypt ask the United States and the international community for help. January 1991 - Hussein defies U.S. orders. -
Operation Desert Storm
42 days of attacks on February 28, a cease fire that leads to Iraq war in 2003. Hussein delivers a speech where he makes accusations against Kuwait. For example, he accuses Kuwait for taking crude oil. President Hosni Mubarak wants to prevent U.S. intervention if possible. U.S. is now asked to help. on august 3, 1990 the united nations ask Iragi for withdrawal from Kuwait. -
Operation Desert sheild
Iraq has 300,000 troops in Kuwait. Hussein declares jihad or holy war. creates a hastened peace treaty with Iran to get military up to full strength.The treaty recognizes Kuwait. it gets rid of all WMD. -
Aftermath
Hussein remain in power. in 2002, is the return of weapons inspectors. Persian Gulf war 2 begins. (Iraq War). -
March 17, 2003
President Bush issues an ultimatum to Saddam, giving him 48 hours to leave the country or face war. -
January 1, 2003
The first 25,000 U.S. troops start deploying to the Persian Gulf region.
