Spain Arrives in America
Historians disagree about when internal migration of Native Americans began. However diseases, inter-tribal warfare, and competition for land ultimately led to their downfall, and eventually their forced migration. Therefore, the internal migration of Native Americans began with the arrival of Spain in America. -

The first European settlers come to America and displace Natives in the area. -
Mayflower departs and New England begins
In November 1620, the Mayflower landed at Plymouth Bay. All the men on the boat signed the Mayflower Compact and established the Colony of New Plymouth. -
Treaty of 1667
Virginia promises Natives that their land can't be taken from them, but set them apart from the colonists. -
Immigration to Colonies growing
The eighteenth-century population of the populations grew rapidly. More because of natural increase but also because of immigration. The colonies absorbed 350,00 newcomers, 40 percent of them being slaves. With this came increasing diversity in the colonies as germans, africans, scottish, irish, and dutch settlers immigrated to the colonies. -
Pontiac rallies a stand against British Settlers
Pontiac gets sick and tired of settlers taking land and he performs severeal raids on settlements. -
Proclamation of 1763
A proclamation is made to protect settlers forbiding them to settle to the West of the Appalachian Mountains. -
Battle of Fallen Timbers
General "Mad" Anthony Wayne and an army of more than 5000 troops defeat a confederation of Native Americans (Shawnee, Miami, Delaware, Ottawa, and Ojibwa) at the battle of Fallen Timbers, leading to the Treaty of Greeneville and the surrender of vast Indian lands west and north of the Ohio River -
Tenskawata Incites Rebellion
Tenskawata claims that white men are the children of the evil spirit and that Natives should purify the land by rejecting things like alcohol and taking it back. These actions would lead to Tecumseh's war. -
Battle of Tippecanoe
An Indian rebellion breaks out to oppose the expansion of settlers into the Ohio River valley. -
Boston Traders Move West
Between the 1790s and the 1820s, Boston merchants had buils succesful trading post in California where they offered coffee, tea, spices, clothes, and hardware in exchange for French fur. These traders established the earliest outposts on the West Coast. -
The Indian Removal Act
The president was authorized to 'negotiate' with southern Indian tribes for their removal to territory west of the Mississippi River. -
Manifest Destiny
The concept of Manifest Destiny, ecouroudged settlers to expand Westward with the promise of economic oppurtunty. Additionaly, as a relut of Manifest Destiny's strong sentiment, Oregon's border was settled at the 49th parallel attracting more settlers to that region. -
Grant makes a "Peace Policy"
Grnat undergoes the making of Indian reserves in order to maintain peace. He establishes that preachers run to reserve intead of a mayor to spread Christianity. -
Huge Internal Migration Due to War
This is the the last large movement of natives. Due to war and the want of a more economically stable life, millions of people moved into urban parts of the country. These people included the lower class and minorities which certainly included Native Americans.
