The first settlers came to America to sought religious freedom in the New World. The Pilgrims sailed from England on the Mayflower in September 1620. The English Academy
In 1751, Benjamin Franklin helped in founding the First English Academy in Philadephia. Franklin established an education that stressed practical skills that would impact students in their chosen field. He also advocated the teaching of all classes in English with emphasis on mathematics and natural philosophy (Science).
