    During Reconstruction the Klu Klux Klan tried to make sure that governments in the South kept blacks and whites kept separate and they did a lot of work to make segregation happen in the south. Te KKK and the White League did most of the work to make sure that Jim Crow Laws were passed in the south to make their beliefs legal.

    Samuel Morton, "Father of Racism" was a scientist in Philadelphia. He came up with the idea that are distinct races each had their own characteristics and he created heirarchy of races with white Europeans at the top with Ethopians at the bottom.

    Servicemen's Readjustment Act (GI Bill)
    One of example of how African Americans were  treated differently in the USA is the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944 also called the GI Bill.  This bill gave many white servicemen opportunities for education that helped them become part of  the middle class, but black people were not given the same opportunity even though they fought in WWII.

    Race was impacted by celebrities Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, mostly white performers, refused to perform in Vegas in places were blacks were not allowed to perform or be in the audience. Vegas changed its race policies because of them.

    Civil Rights Act passed in 1964.  This Act ended Jim Crow Era legally but American society is still has racism in its culture and institutions and ideals.  Black people still experienced housing, voting, problems in the work place that still oppressed them and many still do today.

    The war on drugs from the 1980's under President Reagan started was another racist policy. The penalties for crack were much worse than powder cocaine because apparently African Americans used crack more and white Americans used powered cocaine. This time period saw a more incarcerations for African Americans who got a five year penalty for much smaller quantities of the drug than white offenders who would have the same sentence for much more powdered cocaine by weight.

    The Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 tried to fix the inequality of drug policies that targeted black people and said that the War On Drugs was partially responsible for the greatest prison growth of African American men in modern history.
