Inman and Ada meet for the first time
Inman is working on the new church for Ada's father. Sally tells Ada that if she needs anything done to go and talk to Inman and he would do pretty much anything she asked. This scene shows the nascence of their relationship. -
Party for the opening of the church
Ada is playing the piano and Inman is out in the rain listening to her play. She brings a tray of drinks out to "take to the negros" just so she can talk to him. When Inman tells Ada that if there is a war he will fight she expresses a pejorative attitude about his choice. They show their interest in each other. -
Ada goes to Inman'ss home to say her goodbyes
Ada gives Inman her tintype photo and she tells him to come home to her. Inman and Ada tell each other that they love each other and Ada tells Inman that she will wait for him till he comes back from the war. This scene showed their recipocal nature. -
Inman is in the Hospital after being shot in the neck at Pettersburg
Inman was shot in the neck at the battle of Pettersburg and then he was put in the hospital. He gets a letter from Ada and she begs him to come home. This is what sparks Inmans quest to come home. -
Inman catches reverend Veasey about to kill a slave woman
Inman catches Veasey about to kill a slave woman that he has impregnated. Inman makes Veasey take her back to the house and then Inman ties him up and writes a note telling people what he did. This shows that even though he has been in the war and has seen bad things he is still a recitude person. -
Inman is rescued by the goat woman
After he is cought by the home guard ant the home guard kills all the prisoners but Inman and the guard is killed by the northern soldiers the goat woman finds Inman and takes him to her home to help him heal. She explains to him that he could live like her if he didnt want to go all the way home to Cold Mountain -
Inman meets Sara
Inman comes to Sara's house and she gives him food and a place to sleep. She wakes him up and asks if he will come and sleep with her only so she will feel the comfort of a person with her. In the morning she frantically wakes him telling him the he has to get out yankes are coming. He uns off and then he comes back and kills the soldiers and saves Sara and he baby. It shows how mature and responsable. -
Ada is hunting and Inman walks up to her
Inman is walking down the trail and sees Ada. She does not know that it is him and she is about to shoot him. She realizes that it is Inman and she runs to him. This is significant because it shows him returning home -
Inman comes back to Ada after he is shot
Inman is shot by Birch and comes back to Ada. He falls right infront of her and she runs to him and holds him and then he dies. Right before he dies he says "I came back" this shows that his quest has been compleated
