The Bloody Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened in the streets of Boston. The streets were flooded with colonists unhappy about them losing their jobs and redcoats. The colonists started throwing snowballs (with rocks) and clubs at the redcoats, and then he redcoats fire their guns at the colonists, killing 6 of them. This event is so important because this fuelled the fires of revolution and everyone in the 13 colonies heard about it and was made about it. Link: https://www.masshist.org -
Boston Tea Party
In Boston on December 12, a group called Sons of Liberty disguised as Natives and destroy the tea on each ship to revolt against the Tea Act of 1773. The Tea Act was when the British taxed all the Tea in the colony and only let them buy British tea. The Sons of Liberty threw all the tea off the ship to revolt. British didn't like this so they put more control over the colonies. This is very important because the more control over the colonies mad the colonists mad and help the revolution. -
Give me Liberty or Give me Death!
This speech was made by Patrick Henry at the Virginia Convention on March 23. This speech talked about how the colonists should fight and revolt against the British. This was also one of the first speeches to talk about wanting independence from Britain, instead of just fighting for rights. -
Common Sense
Common Sense was a pamphlet by Thomas Paine given to the colonists in Philadelphia. This pamphlet describes to the colonists that they should revolt against the British and fight for independence. It also tells them they should have a democracy and have people poor or rich have a right to vote. This document is important because it encouraged the colonists to fight which led to the revolution. This is also is important because it told the colonist to fight for INDEPENDENCE, not rights. -
Declaration of Independence
"that they (colonies) are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved" This quote is from the Declaration of Independence, which is a document that declared that the colonies will fight for independence against Britain.
