    The invention of the Printing press

     The invention of the Printing press
    Johannes Gutenberg made and designed the first printing press in 1455, but it did not gain popularity until the Industrial Revolution. It was used to advertise and market new products and inventions and was a major contributor to the Industrial Revolution by spreading the news about everything happening during the revolution. It also started becoming mass-produced for companies instead of just newspaper companies.

    Invention of steam engines
    The steam engine was invented by Thomas Newcomen in 1712 but wasn't widely used until the Industrial Revolution when they started incorporating it into factories. This created semi-automatic machines to help with mining, ships, railways, and agriculture. Adapting the steam engine to use for ships was a major contribution to the United States rising as a world power because they could better transport goods to foreign countries for profit.

    The first factory was made in 1721 but didn't have many uses at first. Factories were able to start forming more widely with the use of water mills and steam engines, as well as the invention of the light bulb. They were created to produce cotton and wood at first but later expanded to much more after the rise of technology.

    These were created in the 1770s and had a huge impact on introducing electricity and power to the world. They served as a primary source of power until the steam engine. It helped to make products such as iron, sawing timber, fulling cloth, and grinding grains.

    Eli whitney invented cotton gin in 1793 which allowed the rapid production of picking the seeds out of cotton. It used a thin mesh sheet to pass the cotton through and remove the seeds. This allowed much faster production of cotton, which allowed for more clothes.

    Again, many children were forced to work by their parents to have more income due to the wages being so low. Children protested this because the working conditions were so harsh. They mainly worked in mines and factories producing textiles. Federal laws were passed to protect their rights but the Southern states resisted

    The growing middle class wanted more democracy
    The rise of factories becoming more popular created more and more jobs for middle-class people. It was also common for kids and teens to work alongside their parents which brought more income. The lower had been expanding into the middle class with the rise of income. With the rise of these new workers, they realized they were a part of the system and were being affected by the laws, and democracy helped the lower and middle classes become more equal in working conditions.

    This went along with the child labor laws. It was passed in 1833 and mandated that children must get 2 hours or more of schooling a day. This was again to prevent the child abuse in child labor.

    The steel plow was invented in 1837 by John Deer. Its purpose was to help farmers plow with efficiency. The plow was pulled by a horse, and it made unusable land suitable for farming. This allowed for faster farming and production of food.

    Samuel Morse invented the telegraph in 1837 and was released for public use in 1844. It severely helped communication during the Civil War. 15,000 miles of telegraph cable were laid purely for military communication.

    This war happened from April 25, 1846- February 2, 1848, during the industrial revolution. This vastly changed the way the war was fought, because the United States had new weaponry such as guns, cannons, and new defense techniques. This also affected the Transcontinental railroad because it quite literally paved the way for the tracks to be put down in the states America won during that war.

     Transcontinental railroad
    The construction of the railroad began in 1863. The sole purpose of it was to make transportation between the East and West Coast easier. Construction ended in 1869 and was widely used by Americans. This was also a part of westward expansion when the government encouraged people to move out west to make use of the resources and land. The government constructed this railroad so westward expansion would be possible.

    The Civil War had a huge impact on the Industrial Revolution, and the Industrial Revolution had a huge impact on the war. The Industrial Revolution brought advances in medicine, weaponry, steel production, and food preservation. The revolution mainly happened in the North, so the North had the upper hand during the war.

    Thomas Edison invented the light bulb on January 27, 1880. The invention of this light bulb made the rise of cities possible and lit the way for doing anything at night. This included night work, nightlife like partying, and social events past sundown.
  • U.S. becoming a world power

    The industrial revolution made the United States a world power because of steam engine boats transporting goods to foreign countries. It severely increased our countries revenue, and increased our influence and power.
