American independence
The 13 United Colonies of America all wanted to be another country from Great Brittan. The Declaration summarized the American peoples motivations for seeking their independence which included declaring themselves an independent nation. They could also work with the French goverment and assist them in the war against Great Brittan. -
Rolling and puddling
The rolling and puddling was a method that made creating iron a whole lot easier. You can convert pig iron (a type of metalic product containing over 90% iron) into wrought iron (almost pure iron, good for bending like making swords) without hammering and heating it in a forge. This made rail roads much easier to manufacture. -
Steam powered train
The first powered steam train was invented by George Stephenson. There is no definitive picture or model as George broke it down and used the parts to make a more effective steam train. This was a major leap in transport and this lead to better designs and more effective trains. -
Australian Gold Rush
In Australia, gold was found in the victorian region, but they were only small amounts. In 1851, thats when a large deposit was found in Bathurst. Everyone from all over the world came to Australia to mine all this gold. This changed the size of Australia dramatically and is a big part of Australias history. -
American Civil War
The American Civil War began and spanded from 1861 to 1865. The war was the North of the US againt the South. The North had gotten rid of slavery while the South wanted to keep it. 600,000 soldiers died in this war and it changed Americas governent and the whole nation forever. -
Ned Kelly hanged
Ned Kelly, an Australian/Irish bushranger born in June 1864 in Beveridge, Victoria. Many people have mixed opinions about him, while some say he led a revolution and stood up for what he believed in, like robin hood, while others say he was a murderous villian. -
Brooklyn Bridge built
The Brooklyn Bridge was a massive brige built that connects Manhattan and Brooklyn together on the east side of New York. It was declared as a national landmark in 1964 and was the longest suspending bridge in the world for 30 years. This changed the way we use engineering and we now understand a whole lot more about phisics and engineering. -
Federation of Australia
Australia became an independent nation on this date. The British Parliament passed legislation allowing the six Australian colonies to govern there own state while being apart of the Commonwealth of Australia. This is the most important document in Australian government history. -
Pasenger plane flight
The Wright Brothers invented the first ever plane that a human being could board. This revolutionized the way people tranport. People could now travel over seas and to other locations at a record breaking rate. Tons of planes are used everyday that people use to transport from place to place. -
Automobile
Henry Ford designed and invented the first ever automobile. It was a quadbycicle. He was even so excited that he knocked it down the shed door it was built in to give it a test run. This eventually evolved into cars, which are used widley across the whole world today. -
RMS Titanic sunk
The Biggest ship in the world horrificly hit an iceberg in the Norh Atlantic Ocean. It was a British liner on its way from Southampton, UK to New York City, US. Today it is still remembered as a big step for mankind, and was even remade in a move with a budget of $200 million. It changed the way we transport and our technology and knowlage is greater because of this great ship. -
World War 1
This was the first ever global war that was centered in Europe. It began with the assasinatiion of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, but there were many more factors which lead to the war. There were many different allainces, so many different nations were declaring war on each other. This was the first real war Australia got into, and changed our history for ever.
