Rockefeller Buys Out Clark & Company
John D. Rockefeller wanted in on the oul buisness. He bought out Clark & Company to do so. He became a major staple in the oil refining buisness, and became filthy rich. Eventually, his buisness became out of hand, and was subjected to government action. -
Christopher Sholes Patents Typewriter
Christopher Sholes and two other men finished their invention of the typewriter in 1867. It wasn't until a year later (the above date) that they were given a patent. Sholes went on to sell his rights to Remington Arms Company because he couldn't sell. -
Durant Scam Ends
Thomas Durant is the mastermind behind the Credit Mobilier Scandal. Himself and a few other men all agreed that building a railroad is more profitable than running one. So they made a fake construction company and profited from numerous government bonds and high paying investors. The government soon learned of their actions and shut it down. -
Transcontinental Railroad Finished
On this date the railroad was completed. Travel time from the east to the west was drastically reduced. -
J.P. Morgan & Co. Formed
J.P. Morgan is privately owned banking company ran by J.P. Morgan himself. He was an exceptional banker, and even helped out the U.S. Government during the depression. -
Munn v. Illinois
Munn v. Illinois was a case over maximum rates for grain house usage and elevator usage. Munn was accused over going over these maximum rates. This case went to court because it was public use. Munn was found guilty of over use, and did not violate the 14th amendment because it was public goods run by a private ownership. -
Alexander Graham Bell Invents Telephone
Sometime in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. In 1877, he formed the Bell Telephone company and also married Mabel Hubbard. -

Eugene Debs was a candidate of the socialist party for the Presidential Election of 1912. He ran against Woodrow Wilson. One of Debs' big ideas was putting America at war. Debs was jailed soonly due to the Espionage Act. -
