  • India and Pakistan War

    The Indo-Pakistani War of 1947–1948, or the First Kashmir War, was an armed conflict that was fought between India and Pakistan over the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir from 1947 to 1948. It was the first of four Indo-Pakistani wars that was fought between the two newly independent nations. The partition was outlined in the Indian Independence Act in 1947 and resulted in the dissolution of the British Raj, i.e. Crown rule in India.

    The two self-governing independent Dominions of India and Pakistan legally came into existence at midnight on 15 August 1947. An estimated 11 million people eventually migrated between the two parts of Punjab, and possibly 1 million people died in the inter-communal violence.
