    Pachcuti ascended to the throne. He was the ninth Sapa Inca. Under his leadership, the Incas began a series of quick expansions. As the kingdom grew increasingly large, Pachacuti set up a federal government at Cuzco and divided the empire into four provinces. He called his empire Tahuantinsuyu, which means "Land of the Four Quarters"
