Rafael Trujillo was born. -
Army
Trukillo entered the Dominican army and was trained by U.S. Marines during the U.S. occupation. -

He rose from lieutenant to commanding colonel of the national police between 1919 and 1925, becoming a general in 1927. -
Army border
Rafael sent the army to the border with Haiti to eject tens of thousands of Haitians who had fled the violence and instability in their own country. -
Castro starts law school
Castro began law school at the Unversity of Havana and quickly became involved in politics. -
Joined the Caribbean Legion
Castro joined the Caribbean Legion, a group of political exiles from Caribeean countries who planned to rid the Caribbean of dictator-led governments. -
Travels to Bototá
In 1948, Castro traved to Bototá when country-wide riots broke out in response to the assassination of Jorge Eliecer Gaitán. -
Marriage
In October 1948, Castro married co-student Mirta Diaz-Balart. They had one child together. -
Castro vs. Batista
Castro became a candidate for a seat in Cuba' House of Representatvies during the election of June 1952. Ran against Batista and castro took to the courts to try legal oust Batista. -
Castro Attacks the Moncada Barracks
Raúl (Castro's brother), Castro and a group of about 160 armed men attacked the second-largest military base in Cuba. -
Prison
Castro is sentenced to 15 years in prison. -
Release from prison
Castro and his brother are released from prison early as part of a general anmesty for political prisoners. -
Death
Rafael Trujillo was assassinated on May 30, 1961. He was riddled with bullets and died at the scene of traveling on a stretch of deserted highway when his car was ambushed by a group. -
Election
Castro is elected president of the State Council. This new title replaces the posts of president and prime minister.
