Treaty of Versailles
This was a treaty written by the Allies after World War 1. Germany had to cede land territory to France, Poland, Denmark, and Belgium. Also Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria and must keep the army to a limit of 100,000 men. Germany also had to pay war reparations that were very high. This caused the German people to try and find a way out and they eventually did through Adolf Hitler and the Nazi's. This was a cause of World War 2 because it made the peoples lives miserable. -
League of Nations
This was a international peace organization. The United States did not join and the Soviet Union and Germany was not allowed to join.The purpose of the League of Nations was to keep the world from starting another war like World War 1. The League of Nations failed because they allowed World War 2 to happen and it was partly their fault. -
The Communist International
The Communists International was a party of Communists that was able to split the Socialists party. They then spread the Communist Party in each country. They are gradually assimilated and turned into the Bolshevik party. This caused World War 2 because it increased tension around the world. -
Fascism in Italy
Mussolini spread a revolution around Italy to revolt against the government. He won and became Prime Minister of Italy in 1922. His Regime eventually called to others like Hitler and other parts of Europe. Mussolini doesn't become effective in government for a few years and not diplomatic until 1929. This caused World War 2 because Mussolini was hungry for land and was willing to attack people for it. -
Hopeful Years
This was an era of good feelings in European national relationships around the world. Many peace treaties and plan were made to keep the world war free during this time. Also Germany is admitted to the League of Nations in 1926. This lead to World War 2 because the people weren't ready for the great depression and this lead to suffering. -
Stalin in Power in Russia
Stalin beats his major rivals to win him the spot for power after Lenin's death. Over time he brings Russia into an industrial state. His Police were brutal and they kept the peace very well. Also he was very communists and was suspicious to outside countries around the world. This caused tension because the West was afraid of the communists. -
Depression
The United Stated stock market crashed and this caused a world wide depression. The worst period was in 1931 into 1932. This caused high rates of unemployment and many factories to close down. Many people lost money as a result. This caused tension because no one had any money. -
Japan Invades Manchuria
The Japanese attacked China in a long awaited war. The League of Nations then tried to weaken China but this failed. This lead to the down fall of the League of Nations. Then because of this this weakened the faith people had in international order. This caused tension because it showed that Japan is ready for War. -
Third Reich
Hitler becomes the Chancellor of Germany. He and the Nazi's soon took complete control of Germany. This contributed to World War 2 because it violated the Treaty and was showing that Germany wanted to start expanding. -
Germany goes Solo
The Germans left the League of Nations which was breaking. This made them go solo and then allowed Hitler to do exactly what he wanted to do. Also Germany withdrew from the disarmament conference. This caused tension because it showed the world that Germany doesn't want anyone's help.
