This date officially marks the start of World War 2. Nazi Germany invaded Poland. The war started in Europe. German warships and U-boats attacked Polish naval forces in Baltic sea. On September 3 Poland declared war on Germany. The invasion was claimed a defensive action by Adolf Hitler. -
Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was the significant turning point of World War 2. The Battle was the first major military campaign in history to be fought entirely in the air . Germany wanted to destroy the Royal Air Force and failed to do so. Britain won the battle and proved themselves strong. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
Japan bombed the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. It killed more than 2, 300 Americans. It completely destoyed the American battleship, U.S.S. Arizona and U.S.S. Oklahoma. -
U.S. declares war Japan
Franklin D. Roosevelt requested a declaration of war against Japan. President Roosevelt formally requested the declaration of war in his Infamy speech on December 8, 1941. Congress supported Franklin D. Roosevelt. -
Hitler commits suicide
Adolf Hitler was the dictator of Germany. He took over many areas, and was responsible for the holocaust with many partners. He was going to be put on a trial. He knew that he wasn't gpoing be able to stand the humiliation. He killed himself by ingesting "cyanide" and shooting himself with a pistol. -
The end of "The Holocaust"
This date ended the Holocaust that was started by Adolf Hitler. The Nazi party murdered over 6 million Jews. The Holocaust was also known as " Shoah". Also, 5 million non-jewish were killed. After Hitler commited suicide the Holocaust was basically over. -
Germany surrenders
On May 7, 1945 Germany surrenders to the Western Allies at 6 a.m. Also, on May 9. 1945 Germany surrenders to the Soviets. The ceremony took place in Reims. May 9 is also known as "Victory Day" in Europe. The Holocaust also ended on May 8, 1945. -
Attack on Hiroshima
The United States attacked Hiroshima because of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. The American B-29 bomber drops the world's first nuclear atom bomb. The bombing approximately killed 80 thousand people. A single bomb and a single plane destroyed the whole city. -
Soviet Union declares war on Japan
President Harry S. Truman signed the United Nations Charter, and the United States became the first nation to join the international organization. Soviet Union daclares war on Japan and invades Manchuria. -
Attack on Nagasaki
A second atom bomb is dropped on Nagasaki by the United States which resulted in Japan's unconditional surrender. The bomb was named "Fat Man". It exploded 47 seconds after it was released. The Japanese surrendered.
