    Vietnam is recognized as a free state by the French Union. French troops are now inside Vietnam.

    Vietnam attacks the French for the first time. After several attempts at cease-fires and other peace agreements, Vietnam smuggles explosives that eventually start what is known as the Battle of Hanoi, the first battle of the Indochina War.
