Teller Amendment
The Congress passed the Teller Amendment on April 20, 1898, which authorized the Spanish-American War and stated that the US would not take political control of Cuba after the war. Although it didn’t directly enlarge the US, it started the war that ended with the US gaining the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam as well as a military base in Cuba.
