The Sepoys were the East India Company's military. However, they rebelled, and Britain had to bring in troops to fight. After the British won, they took more direct control over the region.

After it was built, it was very expensive, and Egypt couldn't afford it. Britain took financial control ofer it, and later they occupied Egypt. The Suez Canal was considered the "Lifeline of the Empire" because it allowed Britain to get to its colonies in Asia and Africa faster.

There wasn't one African representative at the confrence. The whole purpose was to avoid war in Europe, so each nation would get a piece of Africa. The way it was divided caused many problems in Africa

She called for a new constitution so that she could have more power and restore political power, but rich planters would need to pay for it. They didn't like that, so the American businessmen hatched a plan to get her out of power (it worked).

Ethiopia was the only African nation to successfully defend itself from the Europeans. The sucess is dedicated to Menelik II who later became the emporor. He turned the attacking Europeans against each other while he built up a supply of weapons.

The Spanish-American War was origionally Cuba fighting for independence, but later, America joined the fight for two reasons. The first is that they had business-holdings in Cuba, and the second is that they opposed Spanish brutality. After America joined the fight, the Spanish military quickly collapsed.

The Boer War (aka the South African War) started when gold and diamond were found in Southern Africa. Adventurers stormed in to try to get them. The Boers tried to make sure that they didn't gain political power. This angered the adventurers, and they tried to start a rebellion which failed. The Boers blamed the British, and thus, the war began. It is the first modern total war.

Africa constantly rebelled against Europe, but it was a large army, and high tech (for the time) weapons that made most of them a failure, so after a while, more of Africa was owned by Europe than was owned by Africa.
