    The first Opium War was fought because Great Britain was trading Opium to China. The Chinese Government did not like this because of the loss of moral and nationality in China. China would later try to remove the contraband from within the country and cease the trade for Opium.

    David Livingstone was a missionary, abolitionist, and a physician. His missionary work was very generous and helped many people, but all they had to do was abandon their old ways. Over time, people lost their ways and traditions.

    This treaty ended the First Opium War it gave Britain financial security in trade, they ceded the territory of Hong Kong, gave them a tariff, and allowed merchants to trade at more than just one location.

    Matthew C. Perry took four ships into Japan to establish regular trade with Japan and the rest of the world for the first time in 200 years. Japan secluded itself from the rest of the world and lived independently.

    The Treaty of Kanagawa ended the seclusion of Japan and started regular trade with America. They ended some of their traditions and joined the rest of the world, sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a bad way.

    The sepoy rebellion was an unsuccessful attempt to rebel against Britain. But this gave other places the idea to rebel against Britain and other colonizing countries.

    The British Government took the assets from the company and imposed direct rule. The raj was intended to increase Indian participation in government. But they had no say in their own rule without the say of Britain.

    The Suez Canal was first thought about being built by the British in 1854. The British Ambassador considered building the Canal was a ¨suicidal act¨. It is considered to be the separation between Africa and Asia. It connected the Indian and Mediterranean sea via the Red Sea. This offered a more direct route for trading.

    Queen Victoria was already the leader of India at this point but naming herself empress was meant to bind Britain and India closer and link them to the monarchy of Britain.

    Panama Canal Built
    The Panama Canal was built to allow for easier and faster trade without having to go on land or all the way around South America. In 1904 the United States took it over and started using it to get goods from the east coast to the west in the quickest way possible.

    At first, Congress made rational rules that made sense. But over time they started to make rules that didn´t quite make sense. They started to boycott imported goods from Britain which promoted the buying and production of Indian goods.

    The Roosevelt Corollary was an addition to the western hemisphere stating that no countries violate the rights of Americans, fulfilled their debt to other creditors, and if not the United States would intervene at the last resort.
