    This treaty was Japan’s first treaty with a Western nation. It marked the end of Japan’s period of seclusion.

    The protection equal privileges among countries trading with China. Support of Chinese administrative integrity.

    Boxer Rebellion
    Officially supported peasant uprising of 1900 which attempted to drive all foreigners from China.
  • Revolution of 1911

    Revolution of 1911
    A group of revolutionaries in southern China initiated a revolt against the Qing Dynasty. Establishing its place in the Republic of China and ended the imperial system.
