Movement of the Dutch up to the middle of South Africa for more land so they could establish their own empire without British controlling them. -
Sepoy Rebellion
This was a rebellion between the Muslims and Hindus against the British. There was a rumor that the Cartridges were being sealed with pork or beef fat depending on if the solder was Muslim or Hindu. This was bad because cow was sacred for Muslims and Hindus weren't allowed to eat pork. -

The British Raj was the rule of the British Crown in India. Part of India was under British control. -
Suez Canal Built
The canal was built by Ferdinand de Lesseps at a cost of 100 million dollars. It connected the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. It was only 25 ft deep and 200-300 ft wide at the surface and was opened for navigation.
