China is ready for a revolution. Other countries have controlled them for years and they want something different. They are ready to have stable power and control. -
Qing Emperor Overthrown
The Qing emperor is overthrown by Sun Yixian. Qing had ruled China for a long time, so this is something new. Qing was not a good ruler for them, so they all thought Yixian would help solve all their problems. -
Civil War Begins
The Civil War begins after the General Dies. This current general was Sun Yixian. His actions sparked local revolts, which then led to the Civil War. -
May Fourth Movement Occurs
3,000 angry students explode into a national movement. They are angry with the poor decisions regarding territories in Shandong made by the Treaty of Versailles. This movement demonstrated the need and the want of a strong and modern government. -
The Start of the Chinease Communist Party
A group meets in Shanghai to refine the Chinese Communist Party. This party was the founding and ruling political party of the People's Republic of China. Mao Zedong was an assistant librarian from Beijing University at the time and was one of the founders of the party. This was the start of new leadership. -
CCP and GMD
Mao was elected to be in both the CCP and GMD. The CCP was the Chinease Communist Party and the GMD was the Guo Ming Dange. GMD was the Nationalist and CCP was the Communist. -
Jiang Jieshi Broke the CCP Alliance
Jiang Jieshi broke his alliance with the CCP. This meant that Mao had to now act on his own. Mao developed his own branch of communism in rural areas. He believed that communism had to be established among Chinese peasants if it was to succeed. -
The Start of Mao's Army Power
Mao built up a well disciplined and reliable force by providing basic provisions and pay and insisting that everyone in the army, including the leaders, be more equal. He knew that in order to be sucessful, there could be no favoritism. The Red Army consisted of 12,000 men. -

Jiangxi Soviet
Mao’s army moved to a more fertile land in the south of Jiangxi Province. They established a base. They set up the Jiangxi Soviet. It contained a population of 1,000,000 people. -
Start of Civil War
Mao began to recruits peasants to join his Red Army in order to fight the Civil War. The Nationalists attacked communists, but failed to drive them away. There was a long bloody war. -
Mao Taking Charge
Mao became CCP party secretary. Poorer peasants were encouraged to kill their richer peasant neighbors and landlords, and the people who disagreed with Mao’s line and the people who did not seem loyal were purged. In this certain year, Mao ordered 2000 Red Army soldiers to be shot for staging a revolt. -
Start of the Long March
Mao and the main body of the Red Army broke through where Jian's forces were weakest. This was the start of the Long March. Mao brought 700,000 men with him, but throughout the jouney he lost thousands of them to disease and hunger. After a year, Mao and the communist survivors settled in caves in northwestern China and gained new followers. -
Mass Meetings and Political Works
Mao starting writing political works in order to make sure no one went against him. There were also mass meetings held to solve any problems such as doubts and concerns regarding the army. Too many faults could lead to punishment. -
Japanese War
Japanese War reunites GMD and CCP. Japan loses the war and CCP fights a civil war with GMD. Communists win and then Mao is now the ruler of China. -
Fights Between Nationalists
A meeting was set up between Zedong and Jieshi to create a single army. The agreements made in the meeting are ignored and fights break out between the nationalists. The nationalists were corrupt while the communists were succeding. -
Constitution
A Document outlining a constitution is made. The GMD subsequently tried to change it to create more power. The communists then withdrew from the constitution. -

The Civil War secured Mao as ruler of china. His military force was noticed and reorganized as a single army (PLA) and given a unified command.
