    The food or allergen is eaten/consumed.
  • Step 2

    When the allergen is eaten, a IgE antibody is made and it attaches itself to tissue cells , so if the allergen is eaten again, the body will be ready.

    The allergen is eaten/consumed, and enters the body again.
  • Step 4

    Step 4
    When the allergen enters the body, it binds to the IgE antibodies and sends signals to the body to release large amounts of histamine.

    The histamine released causes an allergic reaction.

    Allergic reactions cause many different symptoms such as irritation and swelling in certain parts of the body.

    The Immune System also is possibly affected with the swelling of a mouth, itching of lips, difficulty breathing, stomach cramps, vomiting, hives, or rashes. The most serious reaction to an immune response to food can result in anaphylaxis.
